Sousa's Band band formed 1892

John Philip Sousa, “the March King”, left the United States Marine Band in 1892 to form his own, and it became the most famous concert band in the world. A caution about the label, though: Sousa was an outspoken opponent of recording — he published an essay called “The Menace of Mechanical Music” in 1906 and claimed never to have set foot in a gramophone company's office. He conducted his own band for only a handful of recording sessions. The great majority of records credited to Sousa's Band were directed in the studio by someone else, most often the trombonist Arthur Pryor. The players are his; the baton usually is not.
