Charles D'Almaine 1871–1943

Born in Kingston upon Hull and settled in America, D'Almaine was house violin soloist and concertmaster for both Victor and Edison, and one of the earliest violinists to record at all — his first, a “Miserere”, was issued on Edison cylinder 7324 in 1899. He turned out light classics, dances and descriptive novelty pieces by the dozen, and later played in the violin section of the Metropolitan Opera orchestra.
