About the artist

John Lacalle's Band 1859–1937

Joseph M. Lacalle — born José María Lacalle García in Spain — was a clarinettist, composer and conductor who settled in America, led his own band and the 23rd Regiment Band, and later worked as a music critic for Columbia. His band recorded these four-minute cylinders for the Indestructible Record Company around 1910, not for Edison; Indestructible's celluloid cylinders were the direct competitor that Edison answered with the Blue Amberol.
